Julie Staub treats horses and people so they can partner optimally, using her knowledge and certifications as a licensed Physical Therapist, a Certified Matrix Repatterning Practitioner (CMRP), an Equine Osteopath (EDO), and a STOTT Pilates Rehab Instructor Trainer.
She has combined these diverse fields in a unique way to re-educate the neuromuscular system of the body as a whole.
Julie has been practicing physical therapy for nearly three decades. Coming from an athletic background, she learned first-hand how injury can affect one’s quality of life and shape one’s life path.
Julie educates humans about their bodies so they can form a greater partnership with their horses. Her unique courses for individuals and small groups help riders learn to use their bodies more effectively to better synchronize with their horses. Julie is passionate about fostering a well-educated community of horse people whose intention is to advance the best interests of both.

Emotional regulation affects our flowstate, in and out of the saddle. Learning how to direct our minds toward what we want rather than what we don’t want supports greater joy, partnership, and even structural alignment. As a healthcare provider for the past 3 decades, Julie has witnessed what unmanaged stress does to both people and horses. Julie and her partner Camee engage weekly in a practice of joy with community through Kristin Collier’s Core Alignment with Joy series and ongoing Joy Collective. Julie furthers her integration of joy using nonviolent communication and shares these skills with clients as a foundation of healing, wellness, and better partnership.
Education
Julie’s academic training includes a BS in Exercise and Movement Science from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, NY in 1990. Immediately continuing on to physical therapy school, she graduated and received her BS in Physical Therapy from Daemen College in Amherst , NY in 1994. She received her master’s degree in Motor Control and Sports Medicine from the University of Oregon in 1999.
Experience
An osteopathically-trained physical therapist, Julie has been teaching manual therapy for the lumbar spine and pelvis to the graduate students at U of O’s Department of Human Physiology since 2004. Julie is a Rehab Instructor Trainer through STOTT PILATES, and she integrates Pilates-based exercises into her physical therapy treatment. Julie has worked in a variety of settings, including Division I college athletics, high school athletics, hospital-based acute care, skilled-nursing facility, and outpatient orthopedics.
Julie has developed Supporting the Rider — a lecture/lab series for the equestrian. In these courses, riders learn to use their bodies more efficiently and to synchronize with their horse. They also learn how posture and proper biomechanics influence the use of a rider’s aids.
Love of Horses
Julie also loves horses. She began riding at age 28 and became heavily involved in the team penning world. Within eight months of learning to ride, she won second place at the National Finals in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and continued that success for several years. She also competed in and won the OPHB Triple Crown Futurity (non-pro) at halter.
Julie has learned that competing is only one aspect of being with horses. Since her competitive days, she thrives on just being with horses. As with humans, Julie loves to observe how horses’ bodies actually move and to envision the possibilities of how they could move.
